The line at the gate moves reasonably fast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/caroli.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/plane-boarding2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-989\" alt=\"plane-boarding2\" src=\"https:\/\/caroli.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/plane-boarding2-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/caroli.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/plane-boarding2-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/caroli.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/08\/plane-boarding2.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, all passengers are standing at the corridor that connects the gate to the plane.\u00a0 This line moves really slow as everyone is entering the plane, placing their bags on the overall compartment, and then sitting at their assigned sits.<\/p>\n<h2>Systems thinking<\/h2>\n<blockquote><p>A local improvement does not mean a system improvement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Having two crew members checking IDs and collecting tickets makes a local improvement: the gate line moves fast. \u00a0But this local improvement does not represent an overall system improvement. Another line forms right in the next workflow stage, entering the plane. Passengers still take a long time to sit.
