A data set journey maps the steps, owners, tools, source systems and transformations for a data set to reach the consumers.

It is a great activity for fostering conversations about a data set and its transformations. It is very useful to make it visible the overall data set journey with all the steps and transformations.

  1. Ask the participants to represent the step by step of a data set takes from its first appearance until it reaches the consumers
  2. For each step, add notes under it for a few categories; for example: owners, tools, source systems and transformations (consider renaming the categories for your specific context)
  3. Review it and then decide to either move to the next activity or to build another data set journey
