[Strategy] Nirvana -1-2-4-all- PEST analysis – Action

29 Nov 2021 | Retrospective

Below is a sequence of activities for a quick 2-hour strategic workshop for a group of 8 people.

Context: A leadership group that wanted to align on the future and make some actions based on the current political, social, economic and technological assumptions.

Prime directive: We used the Futurospectivee prime directive

Hope and confidence come from proper involvement and a willingness to predict the unpredictable. We will fully engage on this opportunity to unite around an inclusive vision, and join hands in constructing a shared future.’ – Paulo Caroli and TC Caetano on FunRetrospectives.com

Activity: Defining Nirvana (with the 1-2-4-all filtering)

In 30 minutes, the group defined what good looks like (the nirvana) for the future. We used the filtering 1-2-4-all for building it up.

Activity: PEST Analysis

In 60 minutes, the group had a great conversation on the Political, Economics, Social and Technological factors and how believe they would impact their business in the future.

The group answered the following questions:

  • Political: What is the political situation? how can it affect us?
  • Economics: What are the prevalent economic factors?
  • Social : What are the determinant social attitudes, trends, and behaviors? How much does these affect us?
  • Technological : What technological advances and innovations we should be looking at?

Activity: Action itens

The last part of the workshop was about bringing it all together, having conversations and taking for the action items. The activity was explained like this:

Based on the long-term nirvana and our current assumptions from the PEST analysis, what are the actions items we should focus on?

Check out: One word before leaving.

We closed the workshop with each participant writing and saying one word before leaving the meeting.
